What makes 13:2 particularly effective is that we receive donated goods in bulk, and then redistribute those to direct-care ministries. This enables us to be significantly more efficient than if we purchased all the supplies at retail price.
However, there are some types of things that are always needed and are not often in the bulk donations that we receive. For example, diapers and pads are always in high demand. A memory is seared into my mind of a woman who approached us asking for pads which she desperately needed. We told her that all we had that day was baby diapers, and she asked for a few for herself. This kind of desperation is heartbreaking.
