On June 12th, I visited Reynosa where I witnessed two things on an incredible scale: suffering and service. At Camp Rio, 1,200 migrants are camped in tents in the extreme heat with only the most rudimentary of facilities. The ten porta-potties that serve these 1,200 people strain to keep up with demand. As the temperatures rise, water shortages are increasingly dangerous. Outside the Senda de Vida 2 camp, hundreds of migrants camp out hoping to join the 3,000 already inside where conditions are marginally better.

Amidst all this suffering, I was also deeply moved by the individuals pouring themselves out every day in service. At Casa Lulu’s, I met Lulu who houses and cares for those who have suffered the most unspeakable violence on their journey. I met workers from Solidarity Engineering who work on life-saving infrastructure such as water projects, porta-potties, and the distribution of hygiene supplies. I met and saw many pastors, organizations, nuns, and individuals, all giving of themselves every day. And yet, the need continues to outpace the generosity.
The situation is far more than any one person or organization can handle, but everyone working together is making a difference. I believe that God is in control and calls us each to contribute in our own unique ways. We are humbled and blessed to have the opportunity to link arms with so many amazing people and organizations. Thank you for your support!
